Amazon Error 5665: Brand name has not been approved

Error 5665 is raised when Amazon has not approved the brand name entered for a new product listing. The resolution depends on whether the product is branded, eligible for Brand Registry, or genuinely unbranded.

What Amazon is telling you

Amazon needs to see that the brand value in the listing is the brand permanently attached to the product or its packaging. A logo added only to a digital mockup or a removable sticker may not satisfy the evidence request.

Brand Registry and brand name approval are related but not identical paths. Brand owners with an eligible trademark can consider Brand Registry; sellers using an unregistered brand can follow the catalog authorization application shown by Amazon.

Why this happens

  • The brand name has not yet been approved for product creation.
  • The value in brand_name differs in spelling, punctuation, spacing, or symbols from the approved brand.
  • Submitted photos do not show the brand permanently affixed to the product or packaging.
  • A branded product was incorrectly submitted as Generic, or a generic product was given an invented brand.

What to check first

01brand_name

Match the product, packaging and approval exactly, including punctuation and spacing.

02Product photos

Use real-world images showing the brand permanently affixed and the full product/packaging.

03Application status

Open View Selling Applications and check whether the request is draft, pending, approved, or rejected.

04Batch ID

If the error came from a flat file, include the Batch ID with the application.

Use the approval path that matches the product

  1. Confirm the exact brand shown on the product and correct the flat file if the value is misspelled or formatted differently.
  2. Open the approval link from the Error 5665 message or View Selling Applications in Seller Central.
  3. Submit clear real-world photos of the product and packaging with the brand permanently affixed. Include contact details and the Batch ID for an inventory file error.
  4. If you own an eligible trademark, evaluate Amazon Brand Registry and make sure the selling account has the correct brand role.
  5. Use Generic only for a truly unbranded product. Do not use it to bypass approval for a branded product.

Approval photo checklist

  • The product or packaging is physically present and photographed from useful angles.
  • The exact brand name is legible and permanently attached.
  • The listing brand, application brand, and photographed brand match.
  • The barcode and product identity are visible when requested.

Before you upload again

  • The brand is approved or the application has completed.
  • The brand value matches the approval and physical product exactly.
  • Generic is used only for a genuinely unbranded product.

Questions sellers ask

Do I need Brand Registry to clear Error 5665?
Not always. Amazon also provides a brand name approval application for brands that are not enrolled in Brand Registry. Follow the path shown in the error and submit the required evidence.
Can I change the brand to Generic?
Only if the product is genuinely unbranded. Amazon states that listing a branded product as Generic or as another brand is a policy violation.
